New Delhi: Star Sports India which has exclusive rights for live telecast of ICC world cup in India has ran out of old match highlights. As channel expects at least 50% of remaining matches will be complete washout, they are looking for programs which can fill the airtime of match hours.
According to our sources Channel bosses are talking to SET MAX owners to get TV rights for Sooryavansham.
“It’s severe liquidity crisis of airtime. How long we can show Chetan Sharma’s Hattrick in 1987 world cup or Yuvraj’s Nairobi innings. Akash Chopra and Scott Styris talking non-stop about every technique present in cricket. Forget about people, I am completely bored”, said Ritesh Bhagat, programming head at Star sports.
“Two of my anchors left my channel yesterday after I asked them to take Sachin Tendulkar’s 10th interview in last one week. Even Sachin is asking for more Royalty as he never expected this world cup will be all about rains”, added Mr. Bhagat.
Mr. Bhagat feels If his channel gets rights for Sooryavansham all his problems will be taken care of. “Even if there are no more matches played in this world cup, still we can earn enough to cover our costs through Sooryavansham”, told Ritesh Bhagat.
It’s not sure SET MAX will give the rights of its most valuable asset for last twenty years. “If that happens sun will surely set for SET MAX”, said a expert on TV industry.
